Tips For Beginning Affiliate Marketers

Many times over the past few months people asked me what advice I can give to affiliate marketers who are completely new in this business – and trying to learn how to hold the ropes. During the time I started out with sites like ClickBank, I have seen many different affiliates go from knowing almost nothing about what they should be doing to becoming extraordinarily successful. While every new affiliate’s path to success is different, as will explain below, there are a few general pieces of advice that I know can benefit every starting affiliate marketer. I hope they will be useful in helping you on your fresh journey to affiliate marketing success.

  • Treat affiliate marketing as your day job- I cannot stress this point quiet enough. While the ultimate goal for most affiliate marketers is to generate enough money so they only have to work a few hours a day (and there are many who already do), one key to starting off on the right foot in affiliate marketing is to work as hard as you would at any normal day job. The majority of the successful affiliate marketers start out by investing long hours and doing mainly a lot of work on any promotional efforts, both in studying effective techniques and actually putting them into practice right away. If you will work 8 hours a day doing affiliate marketing, you are going to be successful a lot quicker than if you only work 1 or 2 hours a day. Even if you are doing affiliate marketing on a part-time base, the more time you will spend on it, the more successful you are likely to be in the near future.
  • Do what you are good at- Affiliate marketing consumes a lot of work and time, but one of the best things being an affiliate marketer is the freedom to choose how, when and where you work, which products you want to promote, etcetera. One of the best ways to avoid a burnout, especially when you are not yet making any good money, is to choose promotional techniques that will fit your personal style. Not everyone is a great writer by nature, or even enjoys writing at all. If this describes you, you are probably better off avoiding article marketing which requires you to write larger quantities of high-quality and unique content every day. If you are not the most social person and prefer anonymity, you probably will not enjoy social media marketing as much. Since one of the primary reasons for doing affiliate marketing is so you can work how you chose to work, it is important to figure out what will fit your style and personality. The work you deliver for your affiliate marketing sites or campaigns will be better, and you will be more willing to stick with what you are doing if you are enjoying yourself.
  • Recognize that there are many possibilities to succeed as an affiliate- Since almost every new affiliates start out by reading books or following certain programs created by affiliate marketing “experts”, they will soon think that these techniques may be the only possible way to make a lot of money online and do well in the business. I have met many successful affiliates, and they have gotten to where they are today by taking many different paths. What works for one affiliate does not mean it will work at all for another, and there are always new and better tools, methods, product niches, etc, being developed that can completely change the whole affiliate marketing game. Never be afraid a single moment to branch out on your own or to try a completely crazy idea that you think just might work. Don’t be afraid to fail, because when you make mistakes you will figure out what works and what does not, making you eventually more successful in the long run. There is a lot to learn in this business, so the sooner you start making those mistakes, the sooner you also will start learning what works!
